Parents often ask me about the suggested ways to protect their baby's skin from the sun's rays.

We know that a baby's skin is thinner and, as a result, more sensible to UVA and UVB rays’ exposure. This is the reason why it is imperative to act preventively instead of waiting for your child to get sunburn, hives, allergy, fever or dehydration.

How to do so? Well, I've listed up some very practical suggestions for you, dear parents:

- Avoid the hours when the sun is at its peak (between 10 am and 4 pm).
- Cover your baby with a wide brimmed cotton hat as well as with long, loose and light clothes. On the lower part of its body, if necessary, put a light blanket (a muslin, for example) that allows air to pass while hiding skin from the sun.
- Look for shade: tree, parasol, small multifunction retractable tent that can be carried around depending on the activity, stroller with canvas on top or light sheet on the laps as needed.
- Apply a barrier cream to the exposed parts if the previous precautions are not enough. You can use zinc oxide in particular to make a protective shield against the rays.
- Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen. The recommended type of cream will change depending on your baby's age, skin tone and skin condition. The level of SPF protection will also be directly linked to these elements. Also, remember to apply the cream at least 30 minutes before going outside for maximum protection and to repeat every 2 hours, if baby is still in the sun.

When swimming, use a water-repellent sunscreen or lotion for longer-lasting protection of at least 80 minutes.

There you go! You are now ready to start the summer season in complete safety with your little treasure.

    See you soon,
